Judicial proceedings commenced in Beirut on 18 September 2023, as lawyers for Carlos Ghosn and Nissan appeared before Judge Sabbouh Suleiman regarding Ghosn’s $1 billion lawsuit against the automaker and other individuals (Associated Press).
Ghosn, initiated the legal action in May 2023, alleging that Nissan orchestrated a “character assassination campaign” and spread false allegations leading to his 2018 arrest in Japan. He is seeking compensation for both damages and lost earnings, including salary, retirement benefits, and stock options.
He also aims to hold a Lebanese Nissan affiliate and others accountable for their involvement in actions precipitating his arrest.
During the roughly four‑hour session at Beirut’s Palace of Justice, neither side made public statements. A follow‑up hearing date is expected.
