In a report published by Le Figaro (July 31, 2025), new details emerged regarding the defense of Rachida Dati in the ongoing legal proceedings that also involve Carlos Ghosn. The article reveals the contents of several written testimonies submitted in support of Dati, emphasizing her active legal and diplomatic role on behalf of the Renault-Nissan alliance during her contract period between 2010 and 2012.
The documents, some of which were added to the case file but not considered in-depth by investigative judges, describe Dati as a strategic intermediary in safeguarding Renault-Nissan’s investments in Morocco, Algeria, Turkey, and Iran. Multiple high-level officials, including two former Moroccan ministers, attested to Dati’s involvement in facilitating billion-euro development programs during volatile periods. One minister specifically referred to her as “Carlos Ghosn’s emissary.”
Other declarations came from Renault employees and executives, who confirmed Dati’s legal advisory role and participation in internal meetings. One executive underscored that the consulting contract was validated by the Renault-Nissan legal department, while another emphasized the transparency of her involvement and the strategic nature of the work she undertook.
Despite these accounts, the investigating magistrates declined to consider the testimonies in full, citing a lack of specificity. The defense argued this decision hindered a fair examination of the evidence, particularly since some of the documents were submitted after the end-of-investigation notice had been issued.
Carlos Ghosn, also referred to criminal court in this case, reiterated in a July 29, 2025 statement that Dati’s contract had been lawfully executed and cleared through internal legal channels. The defense continues to advocate for the inclusion of these testimonies in court, citing procedural fairness and international perspectives on the case.
This development underscores broader concerns raised throughout Ghosn’s legal battle, namely, the selective handling of evidence and lack of access to due process.
