In an interview with BFM TV reported by Motor1.com, Carlos Ghosn, speaking from Lebanon, asserted that Nissan is currently facing a “desperate situation” following years of mismanagement.
He stated:
“The company is in a desperate situation” and “forced to go begging for help from one of its main competitors in Japan.”
He also expressed deeper concerns:
- “I had foreseen the decline of Nissan and the disappearance of the alliance.”
- He criticized Nissan’s leadership for “decisions that were too slow” and blamed “most of the problems” on its current management.
- Reflecting on alliance dynamics, he labeled the failed merger with Honda a “desperate move”, and described the Renault–Nissan alliance as “small and fragile.”
Ghosn noted:
“Nissan has become boring, mediocre” and is currently “in the doldrums.”
