Shortly before 6am on 4 April 2019, 20 prosecutors rushed to the apartment Carlos Ghosn and his wife occupied to make a new arrest. This is the fourth police custody for him since November 2018.

Outraged by this new arrest Carlos Ghosn stated:

“My arrest this morning is outrageous and arbitrary.  It is part of another attempt by some individuals at Nissan to silence me by misleading the prosecutors. Why arrest me except to try to break me?  I will not be broken. I am innocent of the groundless charges and accusations against me.”

Many Japanese media sources reported that it is extremely rare for someone to be re-arrested after having been released on parole.

Indeed, what was the purpose of this arrest if it was not to silence Carlos Ghosn and to dog him. He was respecting the conditions of his supervised release at the disposal of the judicial authorities, and could be questioned at any time, provide explanations and appear before them.

Moreover, this arrest comes just after Carlos Ghosn announced a press conference to expose his truth.

This new arrest raises many questions. The raid organized by the prosecutors will last almost 4 hours. Then confiscating her passport and her smartphone, Carole Ghosn is traumatized by this episode and decides to leave Japan to consult her husband’s lawyer François Zimeray, who specializes in human rights.
